On Sunday, August 17, 2025, from 1:30 to 3:30 PM in the Petty Auditorium, Skokie residents and visitors are invited to witness the long-awaited opening of the millennium time capsule. Sealed in the year 2000 and kept safely at the library for 25 years, the capsule holds artifacts and memories from a different era in Skokie’s history. Civic leaders will unseal the capsule, unveiling its contents, followed by a reception where attendees can connect, share stories, and reflect on the changes over the past quarter-century. This special event is a collaboration between the Skokie Historical Society, Village of Skokie, Skokie Park District, and Skokie Public Library.
